Infertility: Assessment First

Infertility Acupuncture

Are you considering improving the chances of natural conceiving through acupuncture?

Have you tried to get pregnant in past 6 - 12 months without success?

A few factors may reduce the chances of pregnancy:

Body Weight: overweight and under weight can both have adverse impact on fertility. A healthy BMI between 20 and 25 increase chance of fertility.

Diet: Sugar intake will cause inflammation, ages the reproductive organ and reduce the egg quality. Fried food is full of trans fat induces inflammation and insulin resistance.

Stress: Stress is normal in daily life. When it is unmanageable, it will reduce the chances of fertility as stress releases chemicals and hormones like cortisol that interfere with follicular development and inflammation processes for ovulation.

Christine Shen at Rainbow Medicine uses acupuncture, herbal medicine, and emotional healing to support you throughout your pregnancy journey.

Infertility acupuncture has been recommended for a variety of medical conditions that impact fertility:

• Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)
• Endometriosis
• Fibroids
• Amenorrhea
• Ovarian Reserves
• Sperm quality
• Relieving side effects of fertility drugs such as nausea and bloating.
• Anxiety

Ideally, infertility acupuncture starts three months before IVF and IUI treatments to assist with blood circulation and reduce stress levels.

On your first visit, the Rainbow Medicine acupuncturist will ask questions about diet, sleep habits, medical history, stress level and sleep pattern.

Rainbow Medicine acupuncture clinic in Balgowlah tailors the infertility acupuncture treatment plan to your condition. We recommend starting the acupuncture treatment once a week,  one month before the cycle and twice a week during IVF.

This is a pain practice, so the scope here is narrow and worth stating plainly. We do not treat infertility and we make no claim about conception. Fertility is managed by your GP and a fertility specialist, and both partners should be assessed — a semen analysis is simple and often left until late.

What we do help with is the pain that runs alongside it, which is real and frequently unaddressed.

Pelvic pain and painful periods. Often the reason someone is in fertility treatment in the first place, particularly where endometriosis is involved. Please ask your GP about endometriosis by name if the pain pattern fits; Australian guidance now supports earlier investigation and referral.

Pain with sex. Commonly a pelvic floor problem, commonly untreated, and a pelvic health physiotherapist is the right referral. We make it rather than working around it.

Back, neck and shoulder pain during treatment cycles. Months of injections, appointments, poor sleep and held tension produce ordinary mechanical pain, and it responds to ordinary treatment.

Neck and shoulder pain from the treatment cycle itself. Months of early starts, blood tests, scans and held tension add up to ordinary mechanical pain, and it responds to ordinary treatment.

During stimulation the abdomen is tender and the ovaries are enlarged, so treatment positions change and we need to know where you are in the cycle at every appointment. No herbal medicine without written clearance from your specialist, because some herbs are avoided during stimulation and around transfer.

We are in Lane Cove at 2 Austin Street, opposite the Lane Cove Library and metres from Longueville Road, and also at Freshwater on the Northern Beaches.
